SOLO EXHIBITION OPENS 24 September in NELSON August 21 2019, 0 Comments

Hello lovely people!

An invitation to my next exhibition, ‘Queens Greens’; which opens 24 September in the McKee Gallery at the Suter Gallery, Nelson.

Please join me for a glass of wine on opening night!
Tuesday September 24th at 5.30pm

This exhibition is a collection of paintings, inspired by the lush local Queens Gardens. These heritage gardens are a wonderful array of deep greens, dripping foliage, water reflections and secret pathways.

Having grown up in Nelson, I have fantastic memories of visits to the Gardens as a child. Rambling around beneath the huge trees, along the pond edge and being mesmerized by the arcing droplets from the fountain and the slow, lurching turn of the water wheel.

This exhibition will display paintings based on the Gardens, as well as surrounding landscapes such as the Maitai River. The work is loosely figurative, lightly abstracted and inevitably veiled in emotion and memory.

The show runs until 6 October, so you have plenty of time to view the paintings. For non-locals, please keep an eye out on Instagram for updates and photos of the works, and feel free to contact me with any enquiries.

With best wishes,

Georgie.

What a fantastic evening for the launch of my pop-up show at Wilson & Dorset last week. Thank you to those who attended! The response to my work has been absolutely wonderful.

A huge thank you to Ju at Studio Home for whipping together this show with her amazing enthusiasm, style and talent. And to Amanda and the team at Wilson & Dorset in Wanaka for offering up their stunning space to showcase my paintings. It has been a fantastic show.

There are a few paintings still available via Studio Home Art House - www.studiohome.co.nz

Now it’s a short break from painting, a quick trip to Argentina and then back into the studio, full of inspiration and energy to restock the the website with new artworks! Phew.

Till then,

NEW YEAR, NEW WORK & COLLABORATIONS January 31 2019, 0 Comments

Hello! Summer school holidays have been in busy, noisy, happy full swing.

I've barely picked up a brush! I am now officially chomping at the bit to get into the studio and start some work on some exciting new projects and paintings.

These are all little (25 x 25cm) colour studies that serve me as a guide for colour and composition for my larger paintings. I currently have three big landscapes on the go that speak to this.

These paintings are great, affordable original artworks.

NEW STOCKIST, ENDEMIC WORLD. HELLOOO AUCKLAND! July 01 2018, 0 Comments

Hello lovely people!

I'm excited to let you know that the first of my original paintings are now available in Auckland. Endemic World on Ponsonby Road have four small works for sale and I will be sending more paintings North just as soon as I can finish them.

Endemic World has a fantastic selection of original art available, as well as beautiful affordable art prints and a great website for online shopping. I'm super pleased to be working with them.

Meanwhile, the studio is full of new works on the go, as I complete some commissions and explore some new ideas. Stay tuned!

Thanks & best wishes,

Georgie.

MAD SPRING & ABSTRACT EXPRESSIONISM October 01 2017, 0 Comments

HI Everyone,

"A color stands abroad
On solitary hills
That science cannot overtake,
But human naturefeels.

It waits upon the lawn;
It shows the furthest tree
Upon the furthest slope we know;
It almost speaks to me."

'A Light Exists in Spring' - Emily Dickinson

Not sure if it's the mad spring weather or just my creative evolution but change is definitely in the air.

I am researching abstract expressionism at present and feeling totally inspired by the movement that happened predominately in the 1950's. Willem De Kooning, Clifford Still, Robert Motherwell, Franz Kline....

I have begun to cut loose in my painting and mark-making, exploring expressionism further in my work.

I'm loving it!

This new work is entitled 'Uplift' and is available in the webshop

or via RED Art Gallery in Nelson.

Exhibition RED Art Gallery, Nelson 17 May - 2 June May 09 2017, 0 Comments

Hello from a busy studio,
(I can hardly move in here right now!)

Just one week until my exhibition of new artworks opens at RED Art Gallery here in Nelson, NZ. So I am putting the finishing touches on paintings, darting in and out of the framers and pulling it altogether into a coherent collection!
It's been months in the making and I am excited to present this new body of work, in such a wonderful space. This collection is dominated by painterly landscapes in a rich, warm colour palette. Large works on linen and canvas and smaller colour studies on ply.

If you are in Nelson, please join us for a glass of wine at the opening on Wednesday 17 May at 5.30pm! Or pass by RED Gallery to see the exhibition which will show until 2 June. Any enquiries, just drop me a line.

Thanks & best wishes,

Georgie.

Belle Hawk features in Habitat by Resene January 26 2017, 0 Comments

A huge thanks to Resene's online publication, Habitat by Resene for featuring Belle Hawk in their latest issue.

I use Resene test pots for screen-printing on our ply storage and frequently in my painting. The colours are wonderful and the range so diverse, that for me, selecting a new palette has become one the most integral and exciting parts of beginning a new collection.
