Hello! Summer school holidays have been in busy, noisy, happy full swing.
I've barely picked up a brush! I am now officially chomping at the bit to get into the studio and start some work on some exciting new projects and paintings.
These are all little (25 x 25cm) colour studies that serve me as a guide for colour and composition for my larger paintings. I currently have three big landscapes on the go that speak to this.
These paintings are great, affordable original artworks.
What a year it's been in the Belle Hawk studio. Phew! Amazing.
When I pause and look back on 2018, I am completely thrilled with the response to my paintings! And very grateful to all who have supported me in my art business.
I'm constantly learning. Pricing, promotion, technical skills, subject matter, gallery and exhibition decisions... it's all on the path of a lone artist and I'm cutting my track and hoping that I'm going in the right direction. It seems so far so good!
Currently, I have works on show at CharlieWho in Taupo. This has been a fun collaboration with Charlotte at her boutique, which is filled with wonderful fashion, art and homeware. I love the cross-over between art and fashion. I've shown portraits as well as landscapes there. Feel free to message me or contact Charlotte at Charlie Who (07 3783969), to know which paintings are still available.
Meantime, I'm working away to finish some smaller works to stock the website for summer. New paintings are being uploaded each week, so keep an eye on Instagram and Facebook for the latest additions. Art makes a great gift!
Thanks & best best loveliest wishes for the season of joy & giving.
I’m supping a Sunday peppermint tea whilst typing a quick update for you.
October for me has been a month of commissions. I’ve been fortunate enough to paint some new landscapes for clients locally and overseas. It’s wonderful to know the people who will own and enjoy the works.
Up next is a group show in Blenheim, at Millennium Gallery.
'Afternoon On Wither Hills'
‘Inside/Outside’ is an exhibition showcasing still life and landscape artworks from six artists. Looks like a fascinating mix and I’m thrilled to finally be debuting in Marlborough! The show opens 6pm 7th November and runs until 9 December. I would love to see you on opening night from 6pm, or call in to Millennium anytime over the month-long exhibition. Alternatively you can call them on 03 579 2001 with any enquiries.
'Late In The Valley'
Thanks for checking in.
Have a wonderful week.
Winter has been productive and I have lots of paintings on the Go. These include entries to some art competitions and exhibitions.
Here are a couple of the latest...
Hello lovely people!
I'm excited to let you know that the first of my original paintings are now available in Auckland. Endemic World on Ponsonby Road have four small works for sale and I will be sending more paintings North just as soon as I can finish them.
Endemic World has a fantastic selection of original art available, as well as beautiful affordable art prints and a great website for online shopping. I'm super pleased to be working with them.
Meanwhile, the studio is full of new works on the go, as I complete some commissions and explore some new ideas. Stay tuned!
Thanks & best wishes,
What an amazing response to my latest exhibition, 'Mezcla' at RED Gallery in Nelson. We had a fantastic opening night on Friday 18th May with most works sold.
I'm excited to be preparing for a new solo exhibition at RED Gallery + Design Store here in Nelson, NZ. It opens at 5.30pm on Friday 18th May and I would love to see you there.
Suzi and Ant at RED Gallery have been hugely supportive of my work since taking over the gallery a year ago. It's always thrilling for me to call in to their beautiful space and sup on a delicious coffee and see my paintings on their walls.
I've been working on this collection of new paintings for months. It is a culmination of thoughts, walks and studies of my local landscape and still life vignettes.
The studio is packed with colour studies, empty paint tubes; linens and canvases. It is a thrilling time for me - as the energy in the studio heightens leading up to the exhibition opening night.
Follow my BelleHawk Instagram feed to see all the sneak peeks of me at work and new paintings in progress. All exhibition works are available through the gallery, please call them on 035482170 for any enquiries. Or feel free to drop me a line anytime.
Just a note to let you know to look out for the latest edition of NZ Homestyle magazine, featuring two of my original paintings.
Art director Juliette Wanty approached me to include my large landscape, ‘Red Earth’ and the smaller A4 size piece, ‘Ridge’ in their styling feature. I am a big fan of this publication and of Juliette”s styling, so I was thrilled to say Yes.
It’s a huge bonus to see paintings hanging in-situ in a home interior - it helps to imagine how they could work in different rooms, spaces and with particular wall colours and furniture. Also to have my work photographed professionally (rather than snapped on my iPhone in my paint-splattered studio!) is fantastic.
These two original paintings are available here online at Bellehawk.
I’m also running my first batch of limited edition giclee art prints of a selection of works including these two paintings. Art prints will be uploaded to the website very soon, along with framing options. Meantime, please enquire for details of this affordable art option. Exciting!
Thanks & best wishes,
This year I am studying abstracted portraits and still-life works, monochromatic works and looking at how to incorporate printed textiles into my paintings. An age-old approach. I can't wait.
In the studio I'm stretching new swathes of linen over frames and dreaming up new colour palettes. Wonderful stuff.
Also a return to my textile design roots as I incorporate some of my original drawings and paintings into new pattern designs that will be printed on fabric and turned into who-knows-what. Something delicious. I'm thinking silk scarves and linen totes... Suggestions welcome!
I hope you enjoy browsing the website and viewing my paintings. Original artworks make original gifts! An artwork is a completely unique piece for your space and can be enjoyed for many years.
